Game Odds
Panthers Offense

The offense of the Panthers is being led by a young group of players who have found ways to win games for Carolina. They are not lighting up the scoreboard, only averaging 18.8 points per game, but they have done enough to win 6 games. They are led by quarterback Bryce Young who has 1962 yards and 14 TDs this year. His main target has been rookie Tetairoa McMillian who has 54 receptions for 748 yards and 4 Tds. As a whole, this passing game is ranked 27th in the league, averaging 187 yards per game. They are much stronger in the run game with 2 very capable running backs. The combination of Rico Dowdle and Chuba Hubbard has this Panthers run game ranked 9th in the league, averaging 127 yards per game. On paper, they don’t matchup well against the strengths and weaknesses of the 49ers defense. They will have to find ways to move the ball against the 12th ranked run defense and find ways for Young to move the ball through the air.

Panthers Defense

A main reason for the fast start this year has been the Carolina defense. They have made vast improvements since last year and are now the 13th ranked defense in terms of points. They are allowing 22.6 points per game. They are balanced in terms of how teams are able to move the ball on them. They are allowing 212 pass yards per game, which is 16th in the league. Against the run, they are allowing 113 yards per game, which is 17th in the NFL. They will have their hands full with a 49ers offense that is getting healthy and starting to click.

49ers Offense

The 9ers got a huge boost on offense last week when Brock Purdy and George Kittle got back into the lineup. Mac Jones did a great job at quarterback in a relief role but when Brock got back last week, the offense just seemed to move more efficiently. That being said, the 49ers are still the 2nd ranked pass offense in the league, averaging 254 yards per game. They have struggled on the ground, which is not typical of a Shanahan team. One explanation could be that Christian McCaffery is the team’s leading receiver and the emphasis on the run game has changed without the presence of a true number 1 receiver. Overall, the 49ers are averaging 23.7 points per game, which is ranked 15th in the league. Now that they are getting healthier, it will be interesting to see how this offense operates.

49ers Defense

The defense for the 9ers has been decimated by injuries. Despite that, they are ranked 15th in the league in points allowed, allowing an average of 22.9 points per game. They let up quite a bit of yards in the pass game, allowing 249 yards per game. That is ranked 28th in the league. Against the run, they are allowing 103 yards per game, which is 12th. If they are unable to continue to stop the run tonight, they will be in trouble as the Panthers like to lean on their run game to grind out games.

Best Bet Background – Brock Purdy Passing Yards over 256.5

Brock Purdy came back just in time to play fully healthy on Monday Night Football. He takes over the 2nd ranked passing offense in the league. So far this year, he has averaged 256.5 yards per game. Last week, he threw for 200 yards against the Cardinals in a blow out game. Tonight’s game should be a bit more back and forth than people are anticipating. The Panthers have a habit of not going away in games. The 49ers are getting some receivers back so they will be able to operate their full offense tonight. I think tonight will be a big night for Brock Purdy.
