NFL Week 3: Best Bets for Sunday

4 Player Props for Today’s Games

Week 3 got off to a much better start for our best bets with Christian Watson coming through on Thursday. We needed that win after a rough Week 2 where for all intents and purposes, my picks went 0-6. There were injuries that impacted half of the picks so hopefully anyone riding along was able to use injury protection. With today’s full Sunday slate, I am hoping to have a true bounce back week. I have gone through the slate today and picked 4 Best Bets for the day and provided some background on each. I have also included Jamie’s pick of the week. Let’s make some money!

Best Bet Background – Adonai Mitchell Receiving Yards over 44.5

The Jets are facing the Lions in Detroit today at 1:00 PM ET. The Lions have come out of the gates with one of the worst pass defenses in the league. Through 2 weeks, they are the 31st ranked pass defense allowing 310 yards per game. The Jets have an opportunity for some big offensive numbers against this defense, particularly in the pass game. QB Geno Smith has played fairly well so far and there is no indication that he will slow down today. While the top receiving threat is Garrett Wilson, the other main target in this offense has been Adonai Mitchell. Mitchell has gone over 60 yards in each of the first two games of the season and has cemented himself as a reliable WR2 for Geno. A lot of the defensive attention should be paid to Wilson and to stopping the run game, so Mitchell has the chance to carve out 45 yards against this very weak Detroit secondary.

Best Bet Background – Josh Downs Receiving Yards over 49.5

The Colts are hosting the Houston Texans today in an AFC South Division matchup where both teams desperately need to win. Both teams are 0-2 so far and the season outlook is looking rough. The Colts just came off of a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Chiefs and the Texans got beat by the Bengals 20-6. Both teams have been bitten by the injury bug as well. They will both be without their top receiving threats, which opens the door for other players to step up. The Colts will be leaning on Josh Downs to step up today against a Houston defense that has not started to click quite yet. Downs saw an increase in targets and production last week when WR1 Alec Pierce exited the game early. Downs finished the game with 7 catches for 79 yards. Today, he faces a Texans defense that is allowing 252 pass yards per game so far this year. The Colts have a terrible defense and if the early weeks are any indication of how this game will go, they will have to play a shootout with the Texans, which bodes well for Josh Downs.

Best Bet Background – Derrick Henry Rush Yards over 90.5

The Cowboys and Ravens are playing each other in Brazil today during the 4 PM window. All week, the storyline surrounding the Ravens has been Derrick Henry’s workload in the second half of last weeks game. The Ravens stumbled at the finish line against the Saints and Henry only had 5 carries in the second half of a game where his team was leading 14-3 at half. There is no way that this happens two weeks in a row. The Ravens are facing a Cowboys team that is allowing 173 rush yards per game, which is ranked 30th in the league. The Ravens are built to run the ball, especially if their leading receiver, Zay Flowers, is unable to play today. I would expect the Ravens to run all over this Dallas defense, with King Henry leading the charge.

Best Bet Background – Blake Corum Rush Yards over 47.5

The Sunday Night primetime game will be held in Denver as the Rams take on the Broncos. The Rams are flying high after a huge bounce back win over the Giants last week. The Broncos are feeling the same after their win over the Jaguars in Week 2. This game has potential to feel like a playoff game as many had been choosing these teams as their pre-season Super Bowl picks. All that said, the matchup that I am looking at will be the Rams run game against Denver’s defense. The Denver defense is allowing 157 rush yards per game over the first two weeks. Meanwhile, the Rams have two capable running backs that they like to deploy. They start with Kyren Williams and rotate in Blake Corum, which brings us to our pick. Corum has run for over 50 yards in his last 3 games as a Ram. Last week, he ran for 79 yards in a winning effort against the Giants. The Rams look like they are going to be without Puka Nacua once again, so the pass game will be “limited” to Davante Adams. I think the Rams will have to rely more on their run game this week because the Denver pass game is still elite. Blake Corum should get plenty of chances to run for more than 48 yards tonight.
